Kink Writer Lina Dune and Why She Loves Your Toxic Turn Ons

Ep 11: Charlie Swan's Toxic Turn Ons Podcast

Listen on Apple or Spotify

I like to throw around the word, “toxic” a lot. I don’t think I’m the only one either. When it comes to sex, love, and relating, I think we can be really quick to separate our feelings into boxes: “good”, “bad”, “healthy”, “toxic”, “normal”, “weird”… But my use of that label in contrast with the conversations I have on this show is to bring humor and attention to one inherent truth about life: we are never going to be able to make sense of it all. Sharing yourself with another person is forever a messy, clunky, confusing affair and so I applaud when people and authors take that on with honesty. Today, I sit down with the amazing kink writer and educator, Lina Dune, from her wildly popular publication, Ask a Sub. We chat finding satisfaction in the throes of passion’s mess from page to reality, orchestrating the chaos of sexual expression into a symphony, and her life’s work of teaching people how to do so.

My Book

Here’s what to put in the queue if you liked the episode.

Something to Read: Lina Dune!

Did you receive any meaningful sexual education in your formative years? Yeah, me neither. Lina Dune runs her own publishing hub through Patreon, Instagram, digital courses, and her podcast all under the moniker, Ask a Sub. I found Lina’s work through my own and have been a devout reader ever since. Through her writing and educational content, she walks people through the emotional, physical, and logistical journey of achieving fulfillment of their authentic sexual expression. Lina’s work, which is inspired by her own experiences in the world of kink and the distillation of advice from her wide community, holds such a lovely space to ponder your own sexual life whether you’re a freak or not. Highly recommend.

Something to Watch: Frozen

Okay, hear me out. Maybe you’ve seen this movie in your periphery as it distracted your nieces and nephews. But there’s nothing quite like sitting down in the dark with a bowl of candy and taking in the absolute majesty that is this movie alone as an adult. It’s such a poignant story of a person embarking on a journey of self acceptance and fulfillment! Laugh now, but you’ll sob cry in the best way later.

Something to Listen to: Rumours (Super Deluxe), Fleetwood Mac

Rumours is practically synonymous with the word “toxic,” ever accompanied for those who know its history with an air of intrigue, drama, and betrayal. Rumours is one of the highest selling albums ever made but was created at a time when Fleetwood Mac might have preferred to watch each other choke on the studio floor. They willed all of that confusion and tension into something exquisite and powerful and sexy; just as I believe we all can in our own lives. It’s gotta be the super deluxe version though. All of the lives and recording sessions make you feel like a fly on the wall in a way that tells a different story than the released final recordings.

Something to Write About:

A sexy genie gives you three wishes that can only be fulfilled within your sex life. What are they?
